I guess it’s a bad habit but I listen out to conversations that are going on everyday around me. The reality of everyday life is highly entertaining.
It’s good fun you should try it! (as if you don’t already…)
Anyways, one of the most common excuses I hear spouted on my eavesdropping escapades is…
“I just haven’t got the time…”
Whether it’s to pick the kids up, prepare the family a nutritious dinner, make healthier food choices at work, catch up with friends, read a book, spend time together, go for a walk, have a hobby, go to the gym, go shopping, travel – basically we haven’t got time for living our life or if you read my last post we haven’t got time to thrive!
I find this concept strange. If we haven’t got time to do all the things that would make us thrive in ourselves, making for a happy stress free life then what exactly is it that is taking up all our time?
Usually, the answer I guess is work.
“Work takes up all my time, if I’m not working I’m knackered from work so I’m sleeping”
To this I asked myself ‘Why do we work?’
Answer ‘So I can afford to LIVE????’
So that when I’m older and retired I will have the time to pick the kids up, prepare the family a nutritious dinner, catch up with friends read a book, spend time together, go for a walk, have a hobby, go to the gym, go shopping, travel.
Seems a very backward notion to me!
The world has to be the fastest it has ever been! We no longer rely on pigeon for messages or horse and cart for travel. So maybe because replies are expected instantly and meetings take place all over the world within 24 hours more is expected of us in each day or we expect more of ourselves.
Maybe the answer is far more simple than that. Maybe we have never actually just stopped and taken a moment to think…
We work to be successful!
If that is the case then, what does success feel like to me?
NB. THIS IS IMPORTANT – success is yours and is definitely NOT what anyone else thinks.
It is as individual as you are!
Success, in your own eyes, might be that you have been promoted to the highest position within your company. Success may be driven by financial reward so a nice car and big salary may be your indicator of having ‘made it’. Education might be an indicator, books read, degrees amassed and being able to pass on knowledge could be your path.
However, success may be that you have raised children to be polite and diligent. It may be that you earn enough money to live your life without having to be a slave to your work.
What if we viewed the whole success thing on a day to day basis rather than a lifetime endeavour?
It could be that you completed your to do list for that day… (I love writing lists just ask Rachel because she seems to love picking them up after me).
I keep coming back to brain chemistry and it is not by mistake.
The brain is essentially who we are! The feelings we have are governed by the actions of people around us, our own actions and our memories which upregulate predetermined chemical reactions so that we react accordingly.
Who am I?
1. The Actions of Others
It is said that we become the product of the 5 people you spend most of your time with.
Spend all your time with dicks you will become one! Spend time with tyre kickers, you will become one! Spend time with wealthy people, you will become one! Spend time with loved ones, you will become one!
We truly are the masters of our own destiny! Choose who you spend your time with wisely!
2. Our Own Actions
This is the most important part of who we are! We are who we choose to be. God gave us choice, the freedom to choose right or wrong. We can choose to accept or we can choose to change the important thing is that we remember that it is a choice!
How YOU choose to live each day will change the people you spend your time with!
Try this out for size.
I am CHOOSING to make Success a Daily Event rather than a Lifetime Event!
THINGS I WILL DO TODAY TO MAKE IT A SUCCESSFUL DAY:
- Finish this Post
- Have breakfast with Rachel and the kids
- Make today’s clients better than they were yesterday
- Film some small videos for new youtube channel
- Fuel my body & train hard!

- Bed 10pm
3. Our Memories
Memories are there to be made!!!!
SUCCESS looks different to everyone but I think it is important that we take the time every now and then to take stock of what we have and more importantly what we need,
it may be you already have it!
