The rugby season is well under way and as I was abroad for most of the pre-season training I’m feeling the heavy load both fitness wise during the games and the aches and pains after.
In the gym I’ve been picking and choosing some of my favourite (read chest and back sessions) still lifting heavy, but no structure, progression, challenge or drive.
The bad habits of and sloth like behaviour of an all inclusive holiday lingered on well after the holiday and the bottle of vino and crisps a night started to become a little more…
I’d been promising myself to get match fit and kept putting off doing the work I knew I had to do.
You see I know what I need to do – I have a catalogue of evidence. Not only that but I know that I want to do it – as much as I do like a bit of pain, proper injuries suck and losing is a bitch!
So, what was keeping me from doing it?
Why the procrastination?
The answer, STRESS…
Stress manifests itself in many different ways but for most people it is in
some form of momentary self indulgences like food and alcohol.
Not doing the things we know that need to be done.
I’ve got some major changes happening and as I’m sure you will have experienced, big changes bring with them indecision, lack of clarity, fear and insecurity to name but a few of the emotions.
From someone who likes to go to bed before 10 it starts getting later and later, watching whatever crap is on. Then waking up like a bear with a sore head and reaching for the sugar laden breakfast and off starts the daily cycle again.
And the fix is?
Well it’s actually more simple than we think.
Start Moving Today!
Don’t put it off any longer just get started with some form of exercise, play a game, walk, jog, run, swim, lift weights
As for me, strength session done and power session coming up and, earlier today I just upped and got outside for my first run of the year without a rugby ball (not counting jogging the 1 mile GNR with little Gabriella)
and I usually hate running but it gave me a right buzz…
I hope you are reading this in a good place, and free from stress.
But if you aren’t, then I feel your pain and maybe you can take your lead from me.
Make yourself accountable by telling someone what you WANT to do and what you’re GOING to do then FOLLOW THROUGH or ask for some help, I’m always willing to listen.
Get to it.
