I loved watching Bill Murray in the eighties
turns out he’s a bit of a legend off camera too.
A quick google search and you’ll find legendary tales
of him turning up at random bachelor parties
dancing at weddings, photo bombing engagement pics,
joining in karaoke sessions with complete strangers
and eating other peoples chips with the line
“Nobody’s going to believe you!”
Ever seen his film Groundhog Day?
Basically Billy is stuck repeating the same day over and over again.
First he uses this to his advantage,
then comes the realisation he is doomed
to spend the rest of eternity in the same place,
seeing the same people
do the same thing EVERY day.
You know when you utter those immortal words
‘I just need to get back into it’
Like Groundhog Day, right hombre?
Repeating the same shit, on the same day, with the same outcome!
Why this constant cycle?
Because you’re an addict!
You’ll be glad to hear you aren’t addicted to failure
It’s not the binge eating
or the carb comas you’re addicted to,
nor is it the weekend boozing extravaganza.
Seriously try to remember this one…
You’re addicted to the ‘recognition of success!’
What people think of you matters
Family friends and loved ones all saying
“well done” and “great effort!”, “you look great”
“Wish I could do that.” and “you are numero 1”
(^^^ that last one just me???)
Who wouldn’t enjoy that kind of attention
and you begin to lose the hunger that drove you…
Then suddenly you’re old news, <—- sad face
weight loss inevitably slows
worsened by your lacklustre approach,
your weight loss is boring,
more than boring,
it’s a reflection of everything they hate about themselves,
so they pull you down…
“you’re obsessive” and “that isn’t sustainable”
No matter what you might say,
YOU CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK!
Don’t believe me?
Tell me you aren’t bothered when nobody likes your status on Flakebook?
It’s a sorry state of affairs but we all care,
we are hardwired to care what our tribe thinks of us.
It’s survival, yo!
So we listen to them,
the weight piles on,
depression kicks in,
and we start the whole process again
but this time even heavier than before!
WELL THEY”RE WRONG!
Paying attention to what you put in your body isn’t obsessive, it’s RESPECTFUL!
Taking pride in your food and ENJOYING what you eat is EXTREMELY maintainable.
You CAN AND MUST find a way of eating FOOD and SOCIALISING
that doesn’t cause you to self implode with guilt and self loathing
every time you’re ‘naughty’ or have a ‘cheat meal’ <—- don’t really exist!
