Just yesterday Chris, one of the lads on the Tough Love Project, asked me if there was anything he could have instead of Veg.
Yes, before you ask he is a grown adult and still not able to sit at the table and finish his dinner
So, I told him to Man the F@>K Up
Listen & listen good!
Protein should be a constant every day!
Do whatever you can to hit your target.
You already know that protein is necessary for adding muscle as it has been hammered into you, but even with this knowledge I still find seasoned weight trainers who come to us are drastically below the mark in terms of protein content which is an obvious and easy fix.
WHAT YOU FAIL TO REALISE IS THAT VEG IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS PROTEIN FOR THE MUSKLES!
Very very simply put Gut Health is as important if not more so than protein content. The ability of your gut to function determines hormone regultaion –
Want more testosterone?
Fix your gut!
Want rid of man boobs?
Fix your gut!
Carry your fat round ass and thighs?
Fix your gut!
Veg packs you full of fibre to move the shit loads of really hard to digest protein through the GUT.
If the GUT is blocked you get inflammation!
If you get inflammation your body starts to defend it’s self by up regulation of pro inflammatory cytokines
Short term this is ok, long term = serious problem!!
Keep gut flora happy by eating boat loads of Green Veg!
If you are having spinach eat the whole bag,
if you are having broccoli eat the whole head,
cabbage well there’s a load in a cabbage so aim for half a cabbage!
Greens should take up half your plate!!
Finish this very simple diet with addition of organic butters, virgin oils and avocados and you guys will feel like Tough Love Warriors!!
Anyway, back to Chris
In fairness I needed to expand my retort with an explanation.
If I just sent him off on his way we wouldn’t have addressed his negative connection ye olde Greens.
So, his mandate for today is to steam some broccoli for 1 or 2 mins then put it in the fridge until it is time to eat.
Then add it to his meal with some olive oil or organic butter and lemon juice or apple cidre vinegar.
This way it will be an entirely different taste sensation than he is used to thus removing the boiled mushed negative barrier from his mind.
To further create a positive experience I have told him to reward himself afterwards with something he likes!
Just hope he doesn’t choose a Mighty Meaty as his reward!!
I’ll let you know how Chris gets on with his veg experience tomorrow.
Paul ‘Lean & Green’ Love
Ps. Greens drinks are definitely not a replacement for Veg but they are a fantastic way of boosting your intake! Whether you’ve had them or not before, unlike so many of the other Greens Drinks, Lean Greens actually tastes really good and is easy to mix with just about anything – don’t believe me?
