The good, the bad and the ugly?
If so then why would we bother making an effort at anything? If it’s already a forgone conclusion that I’m gonna make that decision, whether it to be to do something or not to do something, about this or that, something or nothing…
Or could it be that fate and destiny are just another way of looking at rewards for those that make a positive steps, get their head down, work hard and do whatever they can to make that happen?
Well whatever you believe, I know that I was being looked after from above and rewarded for my efforts when I was sent Mike Muat, my latest addition to the coaching team at Tough Love Fitness.
I am often asked about getting into the fitness business and I nearly always give the same advice! You must think long and hard about this! There is no room for another ‘rent-a-friend’ kind of trainer who will count reps then start and stop your 30 minute treadmill session. You have to know every detail about your client! Their likes and dislikes, daily stresses, long term stresses, emotional stresses, work stresses, nutritional stresses, financial stresses, drink habits, injury history, dental records, menstrual cycles, sleep cycles…
You see this industry is not as cosy & rosy as it looks on the outside!
You mean you don’t just get paid an obscene hourly rate to train rich housewives who follow your every word then go home and watch daytime tv??? (well I sometimes catch Murder She Wrote)
Let’s just say it’s not for everyone!
You have to be strong! Not only physically & mentally for yourself, you have to be a rock for your clients too.
You have to be confident! Confident infront of people but most importantly you have to be so knowledgeable that you are confident in your decision making. It changes peoples ways of living!
An Exercise specialist, a Nutritionsist, Life long student, Sports Therapist, Councillor, Leader, Entrepreneur, Accountant, Marketing Specialist, to name but a few of the daily tasks. I never advise people not to enter this profession but I would always make them aware that it is as much more of a vocation than a profession.
Mike, he is all of the above and more! He embodies the Tough Love ethos. There is no doubt in my mind that he has had his calling and is in the right place.
Before this starts to sound like a love letter I will let Mike tell you his story – click here to read more. Please let us know what you think we love to hear back from you.
